Robben Claims Netherlands Can Continue To Surprise

Dutch star Arjen Robben has claimed that there is more to expect from the Netherlands as they have progressed to the knockout stages of the World Cup by winning all of their group matches. Despite being in a tough group containing Spain and Chile, Netherlands made a great start by winning 5-1 against the world champions Spain. This appeared to give them a lot of momentum and they went on to win against Australia and Chile as well. As they prepare to face Mexico in the last 16 stage, Robben says that Netherlands have the potential to play even better.

The Bayern Munich star has been a major reason towards Netherlands winning their three matches. He is one of the top scorers in the tournament with three goals to his name. Robin van Persie, who missed the final match against Chile, also has three goals. This is just one shy of Neymar and Lionel Messi, who both have four goals so far. Robben was criticised for his failure to take important chances in the World Cup 2010 final. This led to Netherlands being beaten 1-0 by Spain and extra time.

Since then, Robben has claimed several trophies and has gone a long way into shaking of the ‘unlucky’ tag. Robben has already had 540 minutes of action at the World Cup.

“If you told me that we’d win our three games to finish top of the group two months ago I’d have been delighted, but I don’t want to end it here. We want to go on. Although we want to enjoy the moment we’ll soon need to start to work hard in training to improve even more. You have to give compliment to both teams, both gave 100 per cent – and although Chile finished second I think they go far in this tournament,” said Robben.

FABIANSKI JOINS SWANSEA

After only making 1 league appearance for Arsenal, Lukasz Fabianski has left Emirates Stadium and joined Swansea City on a free transfer. The Polish shot-stopper will be moving to his new club when his contract with Arsenal expires in June.

“The main reason I came to Swansea was because I want to be the number one goalkeeper,” Fabianski said.

Fabianski refused a contract extension that was offered by Arsenal some months ago and has now made his way to Swansea City where he is expecting to get regular appearances as the first choice goalkeeper for the team of Garry Monk.

“I want to play week-in, week-out. It’s going to be a real fight, but I’m not afraid of that. Competition is always good, so I think everyone will take positives from that. I’m excited. I’ve already asked for the pre-season program to see how it looks. I’m really looking forward to starting with my new team-mates and I think it’s going to be a fantastic new chapter in my life. I will be working hard for the club, giving everything every single day.” Fabianski added on.

Fabianski arrival to Swansea City was a surprising outcome for Michel Vorm as he revealed that he was unaware about the intention of the club wanting to sign him but the Dutch shot-stopper is positive about the competition that his arrival will bring.

“Fabianski was a free agent, which I understood and he has signed for four years and the present situation is that I will be there after the summer so I have competition. It may be that Swansea is already responding to my departure but then there must be an offer. As long as that is not the case, Fabianski and I will have to fight. I do not necessarily have to leave. Of course, if I can make a big step then I may do that. We will have to see in the coming weeks.” Vorm admitted.

Cambiasso Will Leave Inter Milan.

Inter Milan are set to lose one of their club legends in the summer after the club revealed that midfielder Esteban Cambiasso will leave the club at the end of the season. The 34-year-old veteran has been one of the finest players for the club over the last decade. After having played for Real Madrid for only two seasons, he joined Inter back in the 2004 season. He has gone on to represent them in more than 400 matches over the last decade. He has also been part of the Champions League winning team in 2010.

He has been a regular first-team player even under the regime of Walter Mazzarri. This has been a very disappointing season for the club, as they are set to finish outside the top three once again. They have not been in the Champions League for the last few years. Cambiasso will soon be turning 34 years of age and he is likely to return to Argentina in order to wind up his career. As a result, he has not decided to extend his contract. The former River Plate midfielder may decide to join the Argentine team in the summer.

He has also featured heavily for the Argentine national team making more than 50 appearances up until his retirement in 2011. “Cambiasso will not renew his contract because we haven’t offered him a renewal. He waited for our decision until now, and for that he must be thanked, but I’m convinced that in his future he’ll have a role at Inter,” said Inter’s director Piero Ausilio. The club will now be focusing on reducing the age of the squad. The likes of Diego Milito and Walter Samuel are also set to leave in the summer.

The club have already agreed a deal to bring in Vidic from Manchester United.

MONTELLA IMPRESSES

Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Montella is a former coach of As.Roma until he was replaced by Luis Enrique and eventually the 39 years Old Italian coach made his way to Fiorentina where the club is now placed in 4th place.

Considering the fact that Montella spent a substantial amount of time with the youth and senior squad of As.Roma, on a number of occasions of he has admitted his affection towards his former club and revealed that even though their position in Serie A is so different, there isn’t so much of a difference when comparing both squads.

WARNOCK NOT IN AT NOTTS

Former QPR and Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has resisted the opportunity to return to Nottingham Forest after saying that he is concerned about the interference from the owners. Warnock has been shortlisted as one of the favourites to get the Nottingham Forest job after Billy Davies was sacked following a run of poor results, which culminated in the 5-0 loss at the hands of rivals Derby County. Warnock is considered as a legend in these parts, but the former Leeds United manager says that he does not want to come to the club since he is concerned about the owners.

Nottingham Forest are run by Kuwaiti businessman Fawaz Al Hasawi, who has been speculated heavily in interfering with the day-to-day running of the club. This was primarily the reason behind Billy Davies not doing well in his second spell at the club. Al Hasawi recently stated that Warnock was one of the several names that the club were looking to hire, but Warnock has himself acknowledges that he has received a job offer from Forest.

However, he has rejected the opportunity to take over at the club, which still has a great chance to get promoted to the Premier league next season, due to a couple of concerns.

“I felt that I have to do the job the way I see it being done. And I just couldn’t totally see being able to do that, so it was difficult. It’s been a hectic 48 hours. It’s a great club. I said I wouldn’t have come back unless it was an opportunity to get success at a club. It couldn’t have fitted the bill better with nine games – 12 including the play-offs – to get up. In the next 12 games it was a great possibility to get promoted. It got me excited but you have to look beyond that,” said Warnock.
