Radamel Falcao has again cooled talk linking him with a move to Real Madrid, instead insisting he is happy at Monaco and pleased to be playing in France.
The Colombia international made the somewhat surprising decision to move to Ligue 1 over the summer in a monster £51million deal as part of Monaco’s ambitious plans.
However, there have been rumours on betfair.com that the transfer to France from Atletico was only being used as a way to eventually return to Madrid to sign for Real.
With former employers, Atletico, not usually that keen on doing business with their cross-city rivals, Falcao was forced to look elsewhere when it became clear he was going to leave Madrid but not to sign for Real.
Real have not hidden their continued interest in the Columbian star, with President Florentino Perez recently going on record to say: “Falcao is a great player and I am aware he wants to play for Madrid.”
But, with his contract in Monaco due to run until 2018, Falcao has responded to Perez positively but played down talk he was on his way to the Bernabeu.
“I can only thank Florentino Perez for what he’s said, but I must respect my current club, Monaco, where I am feeling very well. This is not the time to talk about Real Madrid’s potential interest in me out of respect for my current club.”
There is no secret that Falcao has long set his heart on playing for Real and a number of Betfair pundits have suggested that it is only a matter of time before the prolific striker pulls on the famous white shirt.
But Real’s signing of Gareth Bale for a world record fee may mean both parties have to wait longer than they would have initially wanted before making it happen.
